My brother was most interested in the idea of playing Super Monkey Ball Deluxe on the go (he’s never heard of the name Monkey Ball), so he has been looking into the possibility of a portable Super Monkey Ball game. In fact, he mentioned that he got an earful from me about how Super Monkey Ball Deluxe beats Super Monkey Ball World (the game for Game Boy Color) when it comes to portability.

Keep in mind that you can also play Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2’s Challenge Mode, which sends you through playlists of different courses specifically from the chosen game. Each Challenge Mode has five different playlists of drastically increasing difficulty. Just be aware that you cant back out of a playlist and pick up where you left off; these are marathon modes, though they still let you pause or put your Switch to sleep if you need a break. A Practice Mode for these games also lets you play any individual level available to you (Story Mode shares this option, as well).

The last game in the series, Monkey Business, takes the ballistics of Monkey Ball and gives it a Bond 007-esque story, where your monkey leaves the jungle to take on a villainous organization that plans on monopolizing the world monkey population. Its your job to stop the organization before the big bad world monkey nemesis, and your monkey will roll through on missions designed to help or hinder you. There are twenty levels in total, each with a different gimmick that makes for new challenges. Monkey Business is a good game for the series, but its also about as far as youll get from the original concept.

Super Monkey Ball consists of two things: the rolling and the gameplay. With Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, weve added the option of playing on a vertical plane, which is impossible in a real ball. You could potentially get into a ball, stand up, and let it roll the other way. Great for extreme sports.
Theres also a Trick Mode, where you dont have any control over the ball, but you can grab the Monkey Ball and throw it into the air; theres a Turbo Speed Mode, where you can set a timer and accelerate yourself and the ball; and there are two new Challenge Modes: Time Mode, and Universe Mode.
Theres also a Driving Mode, where you control the ball by tilting your Switch. Unlike in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, this lets you play with two hands. Several games also have new multiplayer modes, including Crack and Monkeys . Not the best Switch games (although they are still fun), but nice bonus features.
Monkey Mania combines the classic Monkey Race mode with a number of different modes. There are three racing games, Race Mode (which is the same as in Monkey Race), Monkey Billiards, and Monkey Golf. There are also three more traditional party games, Monkey Target, Monkey Bowling, and Monkey Shot. Some of the games feature new characters, like Spongeball from Ninja Gaiden, and the Mega Man ZX Bandits and Sonic Boom from Sonic Unleashed. Monkey Party also has its own Adventure Mode, a brain-burner where you have to collect the first ten Dinosaurs in each level by bouncing through different areas, in order to progress.
A sequel to the phenomenal Super Monkey Ball Deluxe, Monkey Ball 3 is the biggest and most impressive game in the series. It doesnt involve monkeys at all: you start off as a human (a bit reminiscent of the original Mario) who can use his head to roll a large yellow ball, which he needs to drop through a series of levels to collect a variety of items needed to activate finishing gates. Unlike the ball, a human has a limited number of hits before he or she is no longer useful, so although the game is very simple, its a lot of fun.
