But the new seamless and adaptive smudge tool can be used for fine art painting, which is something that Adobe wants to make useful and accessible to everyone. The most useful addition is that most folks never needed to use the Camera Raw tool, so they can bypass it altogether. The ability to instantly swap an image into a different output format or get a direct copy via the Import function might be even more efficient than the built-in RAW conversion function. And finally, Lightroom’s recent addition to use continuous tone images to green-screen images. I am not yet able to see how effectively it works, but it probably helps you a lot if you’re shooting with a good film camera and you’re shooting into an old film negative. You might consider hiding your background by turning it into a solid green-color and letting Lightroom handle the rest.
With Lightroom 5, the user interface has a cleaner look, but the change is small. However, getting your photos “just right” in the application is still a time consuming process. Because you can’t see the contents of the adjustable metadata fields without scrolling to them, it’s often difficult to see them in a tag list and double-click them to edit them. Lightroom 5 uses a few new features that can’t be hidden, either, including photo importers and the Panorama feature. These are welcome additions. However, there’s one new feature in Lightroom 5 that I am a bit disappointed in: desktop publishing. I use publishing feature in Lightroom every day, and I’m sure I’m not alone; does Lightroom 5 have a publishing feature that I didn’t know about? Apparently not. Lightroom 5 does offer the ability to work with PDF files, but fortunately, Adobe has done a good job of making sure that a user doesn’t have to know about that feature to use it. In the end, Lightroom 5 is an improvement over Lightroom 4, but it’s not a game-changer. If I have to choose one, I’d say it would be between Lightroom 4 and Lightroom 5, because Lightroom 5 offers some new capabilities, but the overall experience is still not that different. Just be careful of the new feature you didn’t know about along the way, and you’ll be fine.

High DPI** screens don’t affect how you view images – but they do affect the way they download and print. It’s important to check your image’s DPI and adjust it to 2,400 pixels per inch (ppi), and since all our images are set at 72 ppi, this is standard.
