despite the grandeur of its potential, the multiplayer universe of mount & blade wars is actually a pretty small place. although the game is a war simulator, it is not designed to simulate war in any way; it is a fantasy game, and the fantasy of war is really quite simple. war is about balancing quantities of resources against each other. in mount & blade, these quantities are the number of your men and the number of the enemy. a battle begins with both sides selecting units. when units are selected, an independent ai of some sort for each side does a sort of strategic planning that involves adding up the strength of all the units on each side, determining the square of the distance between each side’s capital and its opponent’s capital, and so on, before each side decides to attack or not.
the world in warband is designed around unit management and a focus on tactics. your army is composed of over 80 different units, each with their own special ability. to put it simply, its a lot like the old castle management games of the 80s. mount blade warband is a game that is not a simple fps, its an rpg with graphics that will take your head off. mount blade warband
