The Selection panel that you use to select parts of your image has seen an overhaul. Along with just Grouper and Add Layer Mask, there are now options to Paint, Quick Selection, Magic Wand, Free Transform, and Star/Cross, offering more options for how you select areas of a picture.
Grouper is now the standard selection method. Most people will know this tool by the way it is grouped on the Selection panel. But if you want to edit an area of a picture, you’ll probably be using the other selection methods. Optionally, you can add a masked layer with this tool when selecting areas of an image.
You may be familiar with the Layer Comp option in Adobe Photoshop, which allows you to make multiple edits to a single layer at a time. Instead of confining yourself to a single layer, you can create an adjustment layer and apply a different filter to that layer. A shared adjustment layer can be used by multiple layers. This feature allows you to use adjustment layers that are universally applied, saving you time as you make multiple adjustments to an image. It’s called an advanced adjustment layer because a standard adjustment layer only works with the current color mode and doesn’t update when you change your color mode. An advanced layer itself updates to match the color mode of the image you’re working on even if you change the color mode.
Advanced Layers Processing also speeds up the creation or editing process by reducing the number of layers in an image AND writes less data to disk.
