Nice review but after upgrading to LR5.2 RC I think performance is better than with LR4. Working on a project with 1500 D800 NEFs my impression is that the smart previews increase speed while working in the Developer mode – in Lib. mode however everything slows because the JPEG previews are used. So far I am not sure how the Jpegs are used as previews when you have the smart previews (DNGs) available. But have to say that I am happy with 5.2 RC although I will say bye-bye to LR the day they make it part of CC. Regards! Sren

When you first create an image in Pixel AutoSmooth, the AutoSmooth algorithm starts to analyze the pixels and determine if a filter is needed or if you’re done. It won’t always be right, and a lot of times the pixel analyzer will need a second look or a brush stroke to correct the edges. If you’re using Pixel AutoSmooth on a complicated image, it can take a long time for the analyzer to analyze the pixels. I’ve had it run from one second to several minutes to smoothing a small image.
With the CC, it is possible to privately display your work online but sometimes the resulting display is not as sleek as you would expect. I found the display gets a little messy near the edges. This is a problem that is patched in the Preview app in the future. Besides the look, metadata entry and display data are removed from the online version. When you save a document for online viewing, it displays a preview window with all of the settings and metadata adjustments you made while saving the file.
