I dont know what I should get now, high end hardware with Microsoft, Dell or Hewlett Packard? These 2 years will be the most important years in my life as I will be turning 16 years old. So I should be getting some sort of laptop that will last me at least 5 years?
I would hope that HP would continue making laptops for a good 3-5 years but as far as a laptop I would recommend getting a Dell Optiplex with Ubuntu on it. Ubuntu is the same that Microsoft uses for Linux. It’s probably the most compatible OS you can get with the least amount of headaches. Also you will learn how to be a better Linux user which can only help in the future.
I think its completely fine to switch to Ubuntu and use a Linux laptop. I switched to Linux when I was in college (OS/2 Warp 4.0) in 96′ and it worked, so I do not see why it would not work for you. Also check out they are looking to make a media center version and their release candidate is quite usable. The only thing stopping me from wanting one is I do not like my new HP dv6.
