AutoCAD was originally developed for the use of architects and engineers at the Illinois Institute of Technology, although its widespread usage did not begin until it was released in December 1982. Unlike the early CAD programs for the minicomputer, which ran on mainframe computers or specialized minicomputers, AutoCAD ran on desktop computers or microcomputers (a microcomputer being a computer which had a microprocessor but no true memory). In early 1983, Microsoft had announced that the PC was ready for the general public, and by April of that year, the first demonstration of a graphical user interface was made with a program called VisiOn, which was ported to the Commodore 64. VisiOn is considered the birth of the personal computer era, as it was the first program released to the public that used a graphical user interface to facilitate programming on a personal computer. However, in 1983, it was too expensive to run VisiOn on any but the most expensive personal computers.

Autodesk entered the CAD market around the same time as AutoCAD was released, entering the marketplace with the launch of Seismograph and Architecture, released in August 1982. Their first product was not a commercial product but a package which included Seismograph and Architecture and a sample drawing of a house. Seismograph was included as a way to gather data from a house to make the initial drawings that would be used to design a house. Architecture was included as a way to make the drawings editable and to help the user understand how the data would be used. Autodesk entered the CAD market by entering the market for the existing minicomputer CAD users, trying to get them off the desktops and onto the microcomputers, as well as to replace the departmental CAD programs. Autodesk also entered the desktop CAD market as a way to draw more complex designs, which was the reason for developing AutoCAD, to begin with, and the reason for doing so on a microcomputer as opposed to a minicomputer.

By 1983, the Macintosh was introduced and Autodesk went back to the drawing board to improve Seismograph and Architecture. AutoCAD was developed, incorporating the advancements of Seismograph and Architecture. The graphics were upgraded, and the software was rewritten to be more user friendly. AutoCAD was released in December 1982, and the first major release, AutoCAD R1, followed in 1984. The first major AutoCAD release

data definition and data integration
The AutoCAD data structure follows a repository architecture with relational database tables, XML files and external files. The repository engine allows implementation of „add-ons” and extension of the standard data structure to support specific functions.

Drawing Management

Every drawing may be edited through a graphical user interface (GUI). These GUIs may be customized according to the need. For example, the user can choose the program that will be opened for the drawing. However, most actions will be performed in the context of the current drawing.

A drawing can be exported to a file or to another drawing. This is done by the „Export Drawing” command or the „Export as DWG” command in the „File” menu. A DWG file is a standard.dwg file, which is a drawing exchange format used for applications and for interactive sharing. The drawing may be scaled, reduced or rotated. It can be saved as a project file (in some commercial software, the final drawings are stored as a project file), a bitmap (graphics) file or an image file. A DWG file is a compound file, which includes multiple drawings in one file, and allows the user to save each drawing individually.

In AutoCAD, most functions are invoked with the mouse. Some are invoked by other software installed on the computer. The user can open the palette (a window containing options) and perform actions such as change the color of a shape. For example, the user can choose a color from a palette and assign that color to a particular shape. When the user opens the palette, the shape attributes (color, linetype, style, etc.) are displayed on the right side of the drawing canvas. Other tools, called wizards or palettes, enable the user to perform common tasks. For example, the user can perform Boolean operations or coordinate setting on objects. Most of these actions can be performed on the drawing canvas. However, some actions can be performed in the.dwg or.pdf files. For example, adding text, paths, or lines and chamfering edges. A rectangle can be moved and rotated with a mouse. A slider is used to control the length of a path. The user can extrude a surface or create a hole with the „Extrude”, „Extrude Surface”, or „Extrude Polyline”. The user can draw solid or surface (such as a cylinder or cone) by snapping

AutoCAD PC/Windows

Extract the AutoCAD dlls from the Autocad installation folder.

Double-click the Autocad.bat file and follow the instructions.

On the next screen, a green arrow will appear in the field. Press the „Enter” key.

Follow the onscreen instructions.

How to use Autocad
This function is not applicable to the AutoCAD engine of Autocad 2010.

Navigate to the AutoCAD 2010 file you want to open.

Right-click the AutoCAD file.

Select Open.

The first time you launch Autocad 2010, you may see a message saying that the application has not been completely installed. Click Yes to continue with the install or No to close the message and try opening Autocad again later.

In the right window, click OK to open Autocad 2010.

When Autocad opens for the first time, you will see the Welcome window.

Click OK to close the window.

The OK button turns yellow, and a message indicates that Autocad is starting.

Open the file you want to open by right-clicking it and selecting Open.

To exit, close all open files.

Work with the Ribbon
To work with the Ribbon, you must:

Choose View⇒Ribbon & Task Panes⇒Ribbon and Task Panes.

Note: You can also choose View⇒Ribbon from the main menu.

The Ribbon opens in the center of the screen.

The Standard tool bar opens at the top of the Ribbon.

The Tool panel appears at the right side of the Ribbon.

The status bar with information about your drawing appears at the bottom of the Ribbon.

Click a button, shortcut, or ribbon tab to open it.

To close a tab, click the tab again. To close the ribbon, press ESC.

Navigate with the Ribbon
The Ribbon features tabs on each side that open a set of related commands. For example, when you open the View tab, the „Viewing options” commands appear on the tab. To navigate the Ribbon, you simply open the tab you want to see. For example, to view the Viewing options, you open the View tab and then click the Viewing options button. You can also navigate with keyboard shortcuts.
